Websites on the House
ABOUT

Why we started this
We’re Laura and Liam, a husband and wife team from up north and parents to two kids who keep us very busy. Together we set up Big Wild Thought and Morning Club, and along the way we’ve started a brand with just £800 and grown one to £1m in its first 18 months.
Who it’s for
Trades: plumbers, sparkies, joiners and builders
Parents: mums and dads starting something of their own
Makers: side hustles, crafters and market stalls
Locals: cafés, barbers, bakers and salons
“Every little business deserves a proper shot. The website’s on us, the cuppa’s on you.”
— Laura & Liam
Nobody handed us a guidebook, so we learnt everything the hard way, with big ideas, not much money and nobody to ask. Websites on the House is the help we wish we’d had back then: a proper website without the big bill, and a real family in your corner who’ve been there.

The help
we wish we’d had
When we started out, there was nobody to ask. We figured everything out on our own, made plenty of mistakes along the way and learnt the hard way. We don’t want that for you, so here’s what we’d have loved someone to give us.
Our first shop was on Etsy, and it didn’t take us long to realise it wasn’t right for us, because the fees were so big we were barely making any profit. So we decided to build our own website on Wix instead.
Building it took far longer than we expected, and every update and little change always ended up at the bottom of the to do list. People think a website is done once it’s set up, but it always needs small tweaks here and there. Looking back, if someone had built it for us, we’d have been online much faster and probably selling sooner.
We later moved over to Shopify and built a big shop there, but if someone had offered us a simple, low cost website to start with, we’d have said yes straight away and spent our time on marketing instead. That’s exactly what we want to do for you.

A proper website
Built for you, free, so cost never stops a good idea.
Honest prices
One small monthly fee, no small print, no surprises.
Someone in your corner
Advice from real people who’ve been there and done it.
How it
works

Step one
Put the kettle on
Tell me about your business in a quick, friendly form, with a few photos if you’ve got them. No jargon, I promise.

Step two
We build it, on the house
We design your website and send it over for you to have a look. We tweak it together until you’re made up with it.

Step three
You open the doors
You go live, and one small monthly fee keeps everything running, with us on hand whenever you’re stuck.
Good
questions
The things people usually ask us first. Can’t see yours? Email hello@websitesonthehouse.co.uk and we’ll happily help.
Is it really free?
It’s free to build. Normally you’d pay a developer anywhere from £500 to £3,000 for a website, or spend weeks trying to build one yourself. We build it for you for free, and all you pay is a small monthly fee for hosting, security and the odd change, done by someone who’s been building websites for over a decade.
Is this legit? What’s the catch?
Yes, we promise! We’re small business owners ourselves, and we’re probably undercharging for the time and effort we put in, but helping small businesses get going is the whole point. The only catch is a six-month minimum, which is how we cover the cost of building your website.
I’m not very techy. Is that OK?
Absolutely. Most of the people we help aren’t. Everything happens by email or WhatsApp, in plain English, and you’ll never have to touch anything technical unless you want to.
How do I get help once my website is live?
However suits you best. You can email us, send us a WhatsApp message with a photo or a voice note, or use the “Need a hand?” box we add to your website’s dashboard, which comes straight to us. We reply Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, usually the same day and always within two working days.
How long will it take?
We’ll send you the first look at your website within 7 days of having your words and photos, and it goes live as soon as you’re happy with it. We only take on a few new websites each week so everyone gets our full attention, so if we’re booked up, we’ll tell you your start date before you sign up.
Will I show up on Google?
We set every website up properly so Google can find it, with the right page titles, descriptions and everything behind the scenes. Nobody can honestly promise you the top spot on Google, but a Google Business Profile, which puts you on Google Maps with your opening hours and photos, makes a big difference for local businesses. We can set one up for you for £45.
I don’t have a logo. Can you design me one?
Yes. We can design you a simple logo for £75, or we can use your business name in a nice font for free. If you already have a logo, that’s great, we’ll use yours.
Can I use Websites on the House if I’m already on Shopify, Wix or Squarespace?
We build everything on our own hosting, so we can’t build or look after a Shopify, Wix or Squarespace website for free. We can still help you with one of those as a separate package through Laura’s Business Hotline (our business consultancy), and we’ll chat through the price with you first.
Do you offer marketing?
Yes, for an extra cost. We can help with Google and Facebook ads, social media, email newsletters and setting up your Google Business Profile. The smaller extras are listed in our terms, and bigger marketing packages run through Laura’s Business Hotline (our business consultancy).
Do I own my website?
Yes. Your domain name, words, photos and logo are all yours. If you ever leave after your first six months, we’ll hand over a full copy of your website and move your domain for free.
What if I want something bigger later?
That’s brilliant, and we can grow with you. We’ve run multi-million pound businesses on Shopify, so if you outgrow a simple website, we can help you move up through Laura’s Business Hotline (our business consultancy).
